What is it ?
Chakaranda's Finder 9.1 patch is a small patch that adds some very useful keystrokes
to the Finder 9.1 menus.
The philosophy is to modify as little code as possible so we don't damage the
Finder, wich is a very essential part of the OS. This philosophy have proven
to be very succesfull since I've had no reports of bugs or damages ever!! (that's
3 years now) Still after applying this patch MicroMats TechTools will prove
the Finder to be good (unless of course it really is damaged for some other
reason)
How much does it cost?
It's free!
Compatibility:
US & International English MacOS 9.1 only!
(Localized versions will to some extend be available as soon as Apple releases
these systems)
Which keystrokes ?
In the View menu:
"Command-1" for Icon View,
"Command-B" for Button View,
"Command-L" for List View,
"Command-2" for Clean Up
NB! after patching, you must restart to use the added keystrokes
Gone in this version:
In the Special menu:
"Command-T" for Empty Trash
(Apple added this funktion themselves with the "Command-Shift-Delete"
shortcut)
In the File menu:
"Command-1" for Add To Favorites
(Apple added this funktion themselves with the "Command-T" shortcut)
How ?
Before using: turn off any virus protection software, it won't let the patcher
change any resources wich is what it actually does.
Double click the patcher and when prompted locate the Finder (it's in the System
Folder) of your startup disk
Then let the patcher do its job and when finished move the original Finder (now
located in the Trash) to a safe place.
Restart and enjoy the added features.
Can I do this on an active system?
Yes!
What if anything goes wrong ?
Don't panic! The patcher makes a backup of the original Finder before patching
and places it in the Trash.
So don't empty the trash before you have moved the original Finder to a safe
place on another disk or a safe or whatever you like. I also recommend you to
make your own backup of the Finder before patching (just in case) Just reboot
from your System CD-ROM and replace the (mis-)patched Finder with the original.
Read legal blahblah below.
Please note that only the menus of the normal Finder is patched!
Will I do a patch for Simple Finder?
Nope! Better keep that simple :-) (perhaps if you all scream for it)
